Wow

It looks like our friend Nintendo (da Wacko, known from redscowl-bluesingsky.net and many others) is on a R.B. domain shopping spree. I wonder if there's anything he won't buy. That said: he went for some of the top dogs first, including - but not necessarily limited to - redscowl.com. At least according to what he posted today...

Hmmmm. That's dedication, that. Kudos.

Grandma

Those of you who read this blog regularly may already know what I'm talking about. I commented about my gran earlier in a temporary post....

Today, me and my eldest daughter attended the ceremony and service that accompanied the cremation of my granny - the last gran I had. She had died - unexpectedly - last Wednesday morning.

It's ironic that this blog supports a web site dedicated to some little bird. My granny died - still wearing her nighty - with a bag of breadcrumbs in her hand. She was going to feed the birds from her balcony in the morning, but she didn't even make it to the door.

Today, we said our last goodbyes.

This post is dedicated to my sweet grandmother who died before her time (IMO) - and may she rest in peace....

History

At least SOME of the History of the Redscowl Bluesingsky has been discovered and documented by now. Enjoy the read.

Of course, more information is expected as the official RB guide expands... As ever: stay tuned!

YES!!!

It's another sighting. Not a very clear one mind you, and the picture is rather tragic, but when it comes to Redscowl sightings, we must take anything we can get.

The picture was shot only this morning. (Click to enlarge it.) The photographer chose to remain anonymous, but his/her name is known by the editor of this blog...

Shoemoney

A rather well-known member of forums like Digital Point's has gotten into the game himself. He's entered the contest with the .name but he says there that he's not putting much effort into it.

His recent appearance on #2 must be due to a so-called "new sites boost" then.

Keep in mind - people - that Shoemoney is not part of the original contest management, but has agreed to spice up the prize. Three cheers for that...!

Aaah: relief...

Finally, this blog, which - IMHO - is quite informative and clean, was indexed by Google. Of course you all know that it's not a contender, but it's quite relevant and nicely styled (duh, all those black-on-white web sites are just sooooo boring). So I hope it'll stay where it is, to keep informing people in a friendly and concise manner - in the near future.

And why not? I'm not even overdoing the self-promo. Yet :)

Exchange

One of the top Redscowl Bluesingsky sites has now turned into a link exchange forum. Since it's bound to have its content diluted soon, I feel it's going to drop from the Redscolw Bluesingsky serps rather quickly.

On the bright side, I may just go for a couple of link exchanges and see what happens. From what I've read, live links are allowed there (and a link is a link heh).

Double "ouch"

This very blog is still not indexed. Of course that is not very nice, but OTOH* it means that it is safe for all YOU people to comment on the posts. Without worrying about the eventual SEO benefit for your fellow competitor.

Of course you guys and ladies already knew all that, but I'm just pointing it out once more.

Please note that I'm a big fan of slow(ish) optimisation, and that url trends fills my need for info just perfectly... Urltrends.com shows a nice collection of graphs, updated monthly, showing your web site's main stats in comparison to the "average" web site. Great stuff. Use it to impress your boss LOL.

v7ndotcom elursrebmem

Ok, so that is the V7N phrase. Please note that elursrebmem = membersrule spelt backwards. And v7ndotcom -well- speaks for itself really.

Um, yes. I guess I'll stick to the redscowl bluesingsky contest for now. I mean, What would I *do* with all that money....

V7N - just curious

I'm very curious about the search terms that the V7N contest wants people to rank for. Very curious indeed.

Must be some time today that the official V7N gig gets kicked-off with the announcement of the search phrase. Alas, I'm not a member there (yet). But I'm sure we'll know pretty soon eh. The prize money is not to be sniffed at, so it's bound to get some publicity...

Ads

You may have noticed that this blog suddenly went commercial (...um...).

To be honest, I'd like to see what kind of ads Google comes up with on a blog that is entirely devoted to Redscowl Bluesingsky. I wonder if anyone would be silly enough to spend advertising funds on this. And if not (which is more likely) then what will be the next best thing for Google's Mediabot to cough up?

For now, it doesn't look like much :) Lessee when things pick up.....

Sightings

There have been recent Redscowl Bluesingsky sightings and of course I am one of the first to report on that. It's great news and the whole world should know about it — and rejoice.

Don't forget to check out the source of the RB picture...

Story-teller

There's a nice new entry by someone named Chera Cole, who appears to be a bit of a story-teller. Nice bit of work, impressive resumé :)

Could be a major player here (now at #3)

Rectification...(?)

The King of da Wackos - Nintendo - alerted me to the fact (?) that the links to his site were not cloaked at all.

"It was an SSI error. Even the visitors saw that..." was his response to my prickly remarks earlier in this blog. Ummm... OK.

I'm just glad that he fixed the issue, regardless of how it came about ;) Because none of us would want to spam his/her way to the top, right???

T-shirt

Off-topic again but I'm just dying to get me the official SEO Refugee T-shirt.

They are members-only, so quite exclusive too :-D I'm just gonna have to swim to the US and pick one up. No biggie.

R.B. forum

It was a good idea, but bluesingsky.com a.k.a. the Girly R.B. forum has disappeared from the serps as well (for now).

I wonder: is Google testing us? To see if we'd change lots of stuff as soon as we noticed we were dropped. Hmmmm.....

So don't be a wuss and hang in there. That is: if you're not doing anything too evil. Keep in mind that SEO contests often get close and personal attention....

Back

I'm back on the serps - as I kinda expected - but I'm not on the #1 spot yet. That's a bit silly, since my site is really the "official R.B. guide".

Never mind though, it's not the 3rd of March just yet.... I'm just glad I got the people's award for being the first to get indexed at all....

:D

Spot the seven differences

I spy I spy with my beady little eye, a page and its cache that seem to be rather different.

Ouch Nintendo, that is rather sneaky if you ask me (but I bet you won't). That said: respect for the King of da Wackos. and good luck to you with the .net

Thanks to Andrew for inadvertently pointing this out to me LOL.

Completely off-topic

Wanna see a silly picture of a dog? Well, maybe you don't but if you try this so-called PHP Easter Egg you're gonna see one anyway.

Basically, adding that complex query string to most .php URLs will show you a doggy picture. There are even different kinds. Of course, if you want te see a really cute dog, then take a look at this Clumber Spaniel here...

PS: this trick does not work on redscowl-bluesingsky.com Strange..........

Guess I spoke too soon.

Right now the r-b.com site has vanished from my serps altogether. Hmmm, that seems a bit harsh - especially since the site is pretty clean as it is, and even this supporting site is not so bad.

So I guess I'll just wait it out and check again in a couple of days. Interesting note: the datacenter that I checked has ditched my site, but has re-included redscowlbluesingsky.info at the same time.

Weird stuff.

Dawn

It's beginning to dawn on me why my site was indexed as quickly as it was. It was semi-intentional, but I had to watch the competition first to make it "sink in". Pretty clever technique - if I may say so myself - and not at all evil.

Still, I think I'll keep that under my hat for a while, until the contest is well underway. Be sure to check in later when I explain stuff :)

Back on top

I noticed that the official Redscowl Bluesingsky site is back on top (at least on the datacenter that coughs up my Google results. Of course that #1 spot is well-deserved, but I feel we're all very close together at the moment.

Maybe I should shift my promotion machine into second gear. Then again: maybe I should wait awhile.......

Wiki spam

Spamming of the SEO contest wiki page has begun. Both redscowl.com and redscowlbluesingsky.info have added their links to it already. Looks rather spammy IMO. If someone else won't remove them, then I bet I will, later. Can't be ar*ed to do it now...

I wonder why they haven't put up a proper Redscowl Bluesingsky article yet. Wiki amateurs, gotta love 'em.

{shakes head}

Girl power (...um...)

Some girl* I would NEVER go out with ;) got bored and decided to enter the competition as well. This contestant came up with a Bluesingsky forum with a bit of blog space added to show scrapes from blogs and stuff. Hmmmm. Remind me not to buy her (!?) flowers....

* yea, right!

Bowled...

The .info seems to have fallen from the serps already. I wonder why. Could be downtime, could be a glitch, or it could be caused by some of its dodgy (?) personal content. Maybe some people just don't like to be portrayed in a silly way.

Of course that is all speculation. However, since the aim is to rank well on Google I would advise against posting stuff that goes against Google TOS, hacks their code or mocks their employees. I can see a couple of potential new victims already.

Don't say I didn't warn you (no finger-pointing - yet) !!!

Directories...?

Yeah, but I'm only going for the good ones. Just went for my first dir listing and got accepted within 30 minutes. Wow, that was fast :)

This dir is not only fast, but of high quality as well and reasonably exclusive to boot. I'm proud to be in it. I won't link to it yet (from here anyway)... maybe you guys can figure it out for yourselves.

PS: and no, it wasn't dmoz. Still looking for the proper category for my site over there.....

Jammin' ....

Jammer is a bit of a troll sometimes. Nothing to complain about, but still. So even while he's not a real contenter, he couldn't help but stir the pot and put up a nicely-optimised page about the contest on his "zoekmachine-optimalisatie" blog.

People should also know that he's Dutch so he really knows his shit and he's probably very handsome to boot. Yup, some people have it all :)

Copycats???

Erm... a holiday resort?? What's next??? I just hope that people won't go there in the hope of catching a real Redscowl birdie. Maybe a golf birdie instead...

The holiday site looks a bit familiar though. Can't put my finger on it. Could it have something to do with this, perchance? That and a hidden link on your home page Wimbledon. Shame on you now ;)

Tsk tsk. This might even qualify for my R.B. copycat section, which will be ready to be published soon...........

Big daddy.

Sure, that term applies to me AND my website, but that's not the point. I've noticed that my own Redscowl-Bluesingsky web site does rather well on those Google datacenters that Matt appears to call "Big Daddy". Apparently, these datacenters are some sort of prediction of what the serps will look like in about two months. Nice! :)

Fresh blood (part 2)

Another contender, and a hilarious one at that, is redscowlbluesingsky.info. It's like a photoblog by some Kentucky "family guy". Great fun to watch...

So go and visit it, but don't forget to check back here for more updates and stuff ;)

Fresh blood

I've noticed that competition has picked up already. Redscowl.com has a nice and white* blog up. Kudos to Andrew with his journal (which currently beats my site on Yahoo!) and best of luck to him.

Of course, this blog right here isn't really competing. It's just meant to show the other contenders around a bit. Much like his actually.

*...the backlink on nc2600.org/index.html is rather a blacklink though LOL. A tad sneaky, but that makes it just a bit more fun ;) Try that link, click inside the frame and press CTRL+A, to see the black-on-black text magically apprear LOL...

Wiki

Since this is not the first SEO Contest about - and I don't expect it to be the last either - I figured the time was right for a SEO contest wiki page.
Of course it will be heavily monitored, so any spamming of that article - except when performed (subtly) by the original author - will be nuked within minutes. That, along with a couple of other punishments which shall remain unnamed here to keep it family-friendly and strictly lightgreyhat.

Buddy

My buddy skitzz appears to use the redscolw-bluesingsky.org domain. Normally I would have generously linked out to that, but since this is a contest, well....
He also called me a punk (see comment on earlier post), so there.

Monday, January 02, 2006

Of course...

...I had to blog about this thing some more and ping it. Nothing fancy, only using www.pingomatic.com ...

That, and I couldn't resist putting up a wiki page about SEO contests. Mind you there really was demand for that one, even from the Wikipedia regulars. Happy to oblige people...! The article has been picked up already and knocked into "Wiki shape". Kudos to Taestell. :)

Down???

I'm sorry if the original domain appears to be down at the moment (or at least shows a placeholder right now). Apparently, it takes Godaddy a couple of days to get the hosting account to work and accept ftp'ing. Hmmmm.

Sunday, January 01, 2006

It's not everyday that I hear the word "scowl", but it sure rang a bell. After a while it finally dawned on me where I recently heard it before...

Yes, I know, I'm a Jethro Tull fan, and I'm proud of it too!

Mother-in-law

Hmmm, so I decided to enter the SEOlogs.com 2006 SEO Contest: Win My Laptop!. The prize is an old Apple notebook, which would suit my mother-in law rather well.

If all goes well, the domain redscowl-bluesingsky.com will be mine soon. If not, then I was too late hehe.

With any luck I will be the only player LOL (Sorry Badi) ;)
